"As Big Brother tightens control and basic human rights disappear, this song reminds us that freedom is never guaranteed—we must stand up and fight for it," says Antaeus, who co-wrote and produced Freedom.
Fresh off his 2024 GRAMMY® win for Best Reggae Album (Colors of Royal with Julian Marley) and his 2025 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Remixed Recording (Jah Sees Them – Amapiano Remix), Antaeus now joins forces with GRAMMY®-nominated Nigerian artist Teemanay, aka Young Icon.
Freedom is a high-energy club anthem that seamlessly blends Antaeus' signature Afro House rhythms with the pulsating grooves of South Africa’s Amapiano. Teemanay’s soulful West African vocals add an unmistakable Afrobeats essence, creating a dynamic fusion of styles. The track was mixed and mastered by Antaeus, alongside GRAMMY®-winning engineers Joe Maldonado and Alex Psaroudakis. Released via Monom Records and distributed by The Orchard/Sony, Freedom is out now on all platforms.
Teemanay reflects, "To me, Freedom means liberation in totality, freedom of the mind, body and spirit, freedom to spread your wings and soar beyond limitations. This song connects deeply with my roots, the struggles of my continent, Africa, and the daily pursuit of happiness, liberty and freedom from oppression. When Antaeus sent me the track, I was immediately drawn to the groove. The line 'Freedom, Give Me My Freedom' inspired me to expand on the message. Antaeus encouraged me to express myself in my vocals and guided me in the arrangements."
Antaeus adds, “'Freedom' is my response to the state of the world today. I love this track—not just for its message, but for how it fuses genres. It’s Afro House at its core, but the snare and log drum patterns are straight out of Amapiano. I layered in a West African guitar riff with reggae-infused keys, and Teemanay brought it to life with his vocals. Working with him in the studio was an absolute pleasure. We’re always pushing sonic boundaries to create music that transcends borders.”
